Vivienne Westwood F/W 1992 Always on Camera Dog Print Dress

£5,250.00

From Vivienne Westwood’s Fall/Winter ‘Always on Camera’ 1997 collection, this one-of-a-kind dress features a dog print inspired by Thomas Gainsborough’s Tristram and Fox, and a distinctive yellow on red woven label. The print is set against a lustrous black satin base, finished with an appliqué red satin bow. The dress shows light signs of wear, with a few loose threads around the hemming, including the bottom hem, the right sleeve, and the red satin bow; however, it remains in fantastic vintage condition overall.

Editor's Note

“Man’s Best Friend”

Vivienne Westwood’s Autumn/Winter 1992–93 Always on Camera collection was rooted in cinematic glamour, drawing on the drama and sensuality of old Hollywood with a distinctly Westwood edge. The runway played with ideas of performance and visibility, blending sharp tailoring with soft, body-skimming silhouettes, theatrical textures, and surreal prints. It was a season where elegance met irony, and where references to film, history, and fashion history collided in a way only Westwood could orchestrate.

The dog-print dress from this collection is a perfect example of that approach. The motif, taken from Thomas Gainsborough’s Tristram and Fox, places an 18th-century artwork onto a sleek, modern satin dress, transforming a classical image into something playful, slightly irreverent, and unmistakably Westwood. The addition of the red satin bow softens the graphic print and adds a hint of sweetness to an otherwise striking, body-conscious piece. Today, the dog print remains one of the most sought-after motifs from this era of the house.

As seen on Sabrina Carpenter for her appearance on Saturday Night Live. The same print was also seen on Faye Wong for her appearance at the 1992 Jade Solid Awards in Hong Kong, and Sheena Ringo.
