Editor's Note

“I want to empower women. I want people to be afraid of the women I dress.” - Alexander McQueen

Known as 'The Man Who Knew Too Much', Alexander McQueen's Autumn/Winter 2005 collection is widely regarded as one of the designer's most iconic and theatrical showcases. Celebrated for his dramatic and avant-garde approach to fashion, McQueen did not disappoint with this collection.

Drawing heavily on the work of Alfred Hitchcock, particularly The Birds, a film he recalls loving as a child for the precision with which the women dressed, the collection offered a cinematic presentation with a suspenseful atmosphere.

Elements of Victorian Gothic were evident throughout, with dark, moody colour palettes, lace and intricate detailing. The lace dress in particular added a romantic, almost ethereal quality to balance the darker elements of the collection.

As seen in Look 8 on the runway.
