Editor's Note
“Always dress up, because one is always on camera’—and, in any case, one never knows what happens...You always want to look the best you can, because it is the first impression you make that will last forever.” - Andreas Kronthaler
Vivienne Westwood’s Fall 1992 Always on Camera collection, co-designed with Andreas Kronthaler, paid bold homage to the glamour and excess of Hollywood’s golden age. Set in a Paris museum hallway draped in red curtains, the runway featured models embodying exaggerated caricatures of iconic old Hollywood stars. Highlights included a female air pilot in metallic draped trousers and a silver screen starlet in the now-famous Frans Hals lace-trimmed corset. This top, featuring the Frans Hals print, is another variation of the collection’s cinematic theme.
Inspired by Marlene Dietrich’s stylized image and her collaborations with director Josef von Sternberg, the collection celebrated heightened femininity and the dramatic allure of 1930s Hollywood. Westwood and Kronthaler pushed this glamour into the realm of fashion fantasy, blending nostalgia with innovation.
